Southern California Region
Besides the entertainment industry, Southern California is also home to a large surf and skateboard culture. Companies such as Volcom, Quiksilver, O'Neill clothing division, Lost Enterprises, Sector 9, RVCA, Body Glove and Surfline are all headquartered here.
Headquartered in Southern California are The Walt Disney Company (which also owns ABC), Sony Pictures, Universal, MGM, Paramount Pictures (parent company of Dreamworks), 20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers.
Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, behind only the BosWash Region in the Northeastern United States.
Newport Beach attractions include beaches on the Balboa Peninsula (featuring body-boarding hot-spot The Wedge) and in Corona del Mar. Crystal Cove State Park is located at the southern end of the coast.
The Catalina Flyer, a giant 500 passenger catamaran, provides daily transportation from the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach to Avalon, California located on Santa Catalina Island. The historic Balboa Pavilion, established in 1906, is Newport Beach's most famous landmark.
The Orange County Museum of Art is a museum that exhibits modern and contemporary art, with emphasis on the work of California artists. |
