Marin County
North Coast Region
The
population of Marin County has grown from 300 in 1850
to over 245,000 today. Early settlers came from the
eastern United States, Switzerland, Ireland, the Azores,
Croatia and Italy, laying the foundation of the dairy
industry in the county. Farms and ranches in Marin have
been passed down through generations and continue to
thrive. Former Chinese railroad workers constructed
a fishing village, which became one of California's
most valuable commercial fisheries. China Camp is a
visible tribute to the Chinese fishermen whose lives
are indelibly intertwined with our history. Our county
and the state of California are far richer as a result
of their contribution.
Marin
county enjoys a temperate, marine climate all year round.
Moderate winters with periods of rain, and warm, dry
summers with fog along the Pacific coast, especially
in the Golden Gate area. A light coat or jacket is recommended
for evenings all seasons.
